Advancing Equity: Building Respectable Environments in a Racially Diverse Society

A professional development course for educators who are ready to understand race and inequity at a deeper level, and do something meaningful with that understanding.

This self-paced, asynchronous course equips educators with a foundational understanding of racial inequity in the United States. Participants examine the historical, political, and social forces that created and sustain inequity, explore how those forces show up in schools and classrooms, and build the awareness needed to create more respectful and equitable learning environments.

This course is aligned with the NC Professional Teaching Equity Standard and provided in partnership with Brownicity and the Dudley Flood Center for Educational Equity and Opportunity.

This course directly aligns with NC Professional Teaching Standard II: Teachers Establish a Respectful Environment for a Diverse Population of Students, which requires educators to actively embrace diversity, recognize the influence of race and culture on student development, maintain high expectations for all learners, and select materials that counteract stereotypes. Completion supports your ongoing professional growth and licensure renewal.
